The One Product That Just Might Conceal Dark Circles Better Than Concealer
May 27, 2020Dark under-eye circles, whether they’re caused from sleepless nights or genetics, are tricky to deal with. That’s because sometimes a little concealer on its own just doesn’t cut it. Luckily, thanks to beauty influencer and founder of Live Tinted, Deepica Mutyala, we learned that bright red lipstick beneath your concealer may be the secret to a brighter, more awake-looking under-eye area. The bright red color helps neutralize those deep purple and blue hues. We were so impressed with Mutyala’s tutorial that we decided to put it to the test and try it out with beauty influencer Julia Salvia. Ahead, find out how to DIY the ultimate makeup trick for concealing those under-eye circles at home correctly with a bright red lipstick.
STEP 1: After applying foundation, use an eyeshadow brush to fill in the entire under-eye area with red lipstick. Start with a light layer of color and build as needed until the discoloration is no longer visible. As for which shade of red lipstick you should use, check out the lipstick shades we chose for three different skin tones:
Light/Fair Skin: Try the Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge Hydrating Lipstick in Rose Lancôme for its bright red hue with pink undertones.
Medium Skin: For medium skin, we recommend a red lipstick with a slight purple tint, like the IT Cosmetics Pillow Lips Lipstick in Like a Dream.
Dark Skin: To conceal dark circles on deeper skin tones, coral and bright orange-y reds, like the Maybelline New York Color Sensational Creamy Mattes in Craving Coral, will work best.
STEP 2: Take your favorite concealer and cover the red layer completely, using a beauty sponge to blend the color in. Build up your coverage until the red is completely hidden.
STEP 3: Dust your face with a finishing powder that matches your skin tone to allow for seamless and universal coverage. Red lipstick is good for other makeup hacks, too! Check out our video, ahead to see the lipstick hack in action and to discover a few more tricks.
